Privacy Policy

TactIQ Chess ("the App") is operated by TactIQ Chess School ("we", "us", "our") for the administration of TactIQ Chess School's chess academy, including student management, attendance, fee tracking, tournament registration and pairing, chess puzzles and lessons, and online chess games between students. This policy explains what information we collect through the App and how we use it.

Information We Collect

Depending on your role (student, parent, coach, or academy owner), we collect:

• Name, phone number, date of birth, gender, school, and address, provided at enrollment
• A profile photo, if you choose to upload one
• Chess-related identifiers and ratings (FIDE ID, KSCA ID, AICF ID, and rating history), where applicable
• Attendance records
• Fee and payment status (amounts due and paid); online payments are processed by Razorpay, a third-party payment processor — we do not store your card, UPI, or bank details ourselves
• Tournament registrations, pairings, game results, and standings
• Puzzle and lesson progress
• Moves and results from games played against other students or against the on-device chess engine
• A device push-notification token, used to deliver academy announcements
• Live video and audio from your device's camera and microphone, only when you or academy staff actively choose to broadcast an in-person ("over-the-board") tournament game

Children's Information

Many of our students are minors. Student accounts and data are created and managed by the academy on behalf of enrolled students, with the involvement of a parent or guardian during enrollment. We collect only what is needed to run academy operations described above. A parent or guardian may contact us at any time (see below) to review, correct, or request deletion of their child's information.

How We Use Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Operate academy administration: attendance, fee tracking, and communication
• Run tournaments: registration, pairings, standings, and prize lists
• Track chess progress: puzzle/lesson completion and game history
• Send you academy-related notifications

We do not sell your information, and we do not use it for advertising.

How We Store and Share Information

Your data is stored using Google Firebase (Firestore database, Cloud Storage for photos, and Cloud Messaging for notifications), and online payments are processed by Razorpay. These providers act as our data processors and only access information as needed to provide their service to us; we do not otherwise share your information with third parties.

When a student or staff member chooses to broadcast an over-the-board tournament game, the live video is sent to YouTube (via the YouTube API Services) and published to the academy's own YouTube channel so other students and parents can watch. This only happens for that specific broadcast, initiated by that person's own action — we do not access or use any other data from your Google/YouTube account. Our use of YouTube API Services is subject to the YouTube Terms of Service and Google's Privacy Policy.

Data Retention

We retain your information for as long as you are enrolled at the academy and for a reasonable period afterward for record-keeping (e.g. tournament history, fee records). You may request deletion at any time using the contact details below.

Security

We use Firebase's access-control rules to restrict who can read or write your data: students can only see their own records, and academy staff access is limited to what their role requires.

Your Choices

You can review or update most of your information by contacting the academy directly. You can decline to upload a profile photo. You can disable push notifications from your device's system settings at any time.

Changes to This Policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you through the App.
